Travel tip: Light Faced Travel Beauty in Three Steps
Friday, May 23, 2014Just because you are travelling on a long haul flight does not mean you cannot look nice while on board. Sure, you have limited space and check in luggage restrictions. You are not here to make a lasting impression on your neighbouring passengers who you may never remember. On the other hand, you don't necessarily want to be travelling to your destination shouting out to everyone that you've just spent an x number of hours inside a plane - you still want to look your best.
Think compact and minimal. Here are my suggestions:
- Moisturise
Keep your makeup to a minimum. Wash your face and moisturise well, because it's dehydrating in those planes, with the air pressure and controls. At the moment I am using Chanel Hydra Beauty Creme:
'Twas a New Year's present (merci, A) and
it's almost running out, boohoo. I also love Khiel's Ultra Facial Cream, and Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil:
Your lips.
Chapped lips are never a good look. I cannot live without my lipbalms. My dad and I are addicted to them, almost. I used to swear by Strawberry ChapSticks - such a classic! - but have since moved on to explore other brands as well. Nowadays, I wear Maybelline Baby Lips in mixed berry. A little tint helps:
Your hands.
Don't forget your hands and nails! I have the coldest, driest hands ever, but for some reason people say they are soft. The Body Shop, L'Occitane and Crabtree & Evelyn are my favourites.
Your guts.
It's also good to carry in an empty drink bottle and fill it up with water to regularly hydrate yourself. Better than having to ask for water every so often. Sitting down for long hours in a squashed position is just as uncomfortable for your bowels as well as your joints and blood vessels. Drink up and move about as much as possible. For this reason I prefer the aisle seats on long flights, so I can get up and stretch. Plus, if your meal was subpar, hopefully the night snacks are better - but never overeat!
- Cover up
It's compact, includes a mirror, and also has powder to settle down those shiny patches. Sweet!
- Cleanse

You will always find a lipbalm and hand cream in my handbag, at all times - especially so now that Winter is approaching those of us in the Southern Hemisphere!
