Melbourne: Royal Botanic Gardens

Saturday, March 22, 2014

There are so many gardens in Melbourne. They are called gardens but are really big parks. Housemate K loves to lie down in Fitzroy Gardens with her friends during the Summer, every chance she gets. I love going on walks around the popular Princes Park after work, with all the other fit people in Melbourne.
Royal Botanic Gardens is huge. My favourite part is its Children's Garden, fuelling the imagination of the little people with mazes, unusually shaped trees and sweet smelling herbs.
I saw many plants and trees I weren't familiar with...
...and was also surprised to see these birds that I was familiar with. In New Zealand we call these 'pukekos'. Since they had a Maori name, I thought they were native birds of NZ. Apparently they are quite spread around the South Pacific.
Seems like the weather will be cloudy in Melbourne in the next few days. Don't catch a chill!
