Lunch place: Mama Rich
Wednesday, August 31, 2016There are several Malaysian restaurants I like in Auckland.
Selera in Newmarket is one of them, Paparich on Queen Street is another. When J
suggested that we go try out Mamarich, I naturally thought that it must be a
second place to Paparich. Not at all. Mamarich is smaller, and definitely less
fancy than Paparich. Situated near the motorway and the Ellerslie Racecourse, this
clean but empty restaurant is one of those places I would have just passed by,
without even a glance, had I not been directed there. The menu is what you
would find in any standard Malaysian restaurant. Disappointingly, the meal shown
on the menu and what actually gets served are miles away size wise. From the
photos I was expecting generous portions similar to those you’d get from Selera.
We left feeling not completely satisfied – we’ll be going back to Selera from
now on.

Apparently when I was there 2 years ago, I asked if they have some connection to Selera, they said yes. I am not sure if that's the case now. That time I noticed a strange similarity between their menus (Selera and Mamarich). Perhaps the difference is the chef. :)
ReplyDeleteThat actually makes so much sense! We thought that, too! Still, Selera offers the more filling portion, so it wins my vote between the two :)
