Baking: Galette des Rois

Thursday, January 21, 2016

We loved the Galette des Rois we bought from la Voie Francaise, but we thought we could try baking it ourselves. I got a recipe from A's cousin, M, which seemed easy enough to follow. It's so simple to make, I don't know if I will ever buy one again! $40 from the store cost less than half for me to bake the galette myself.

Follow these steps:
  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius
  • Mix: 125g sugar, 60g butter, 150g almond meal in a bowl
  • Add to the mix: 1 tablespoon vanilla essence, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoon white rum
  • In your baking dish: place one puffy pastry sheet, spread your almond meal mix, hide your figurine inside, then cover with another puffy pastry sheet
  • Close the two pastry sheets well together, and brush the top with an egg yolk & water mixture
  • Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden on the top
Bon appétit !
