Cake place: Black Star Pastry
Monday, December 28, 2015- I'm in Sydney
- You have to go and try the Strawberry Watermelon cake!
- Er, okay.
So that's how we ended up hunting for the world famous and innovative strawberry watermelon cake chez Black Star Pastry.
Luckily we arrived early, before the crowd formed a long queue out in the street. The cafe is small, but has an extended dining area next door. Outside is a pink court building with a grey police station next to it, so I'm guessing this is a pretty safe area to be eating in.
As recommended by M, I dutifully ordered my first strawberry watermelon cake, one serving. There are options to buy for four or more. Many customers came into buy bigger sizes and carried them out protective arms around their yummy package.
The cake is not only innovative but also very pretty. The cake is sweet like a macaron, while the watermelon gives a fresh juicy taste, with the cream protecting the cake from becoming mushy by the watermelon's wetness. It's ingenious, why don't more cafes follow suit?
W wants one for her birthday, but I'm not sure if Black Star Pastry does delivery. I somehow doubt it..
