Dinner place: Chaahat Indian Cuisine
Tuesday, November 03, 2015
Chaahat boasts the best Indian place in my neighbourhood, Newmarket. Here's a new Hindi word of the day: Chaahat, or Chahat, means, 'love' or 'affection'. How pretty.
The attractive bright blue lights hung outside the restaurant reminds me a lot of the Nite Spice Indian restaurant in the neighbouring suburb of Mt Eden, and for quite a long time until recently I used to confuse the two.
The best thing about Chaahat is their Monday to Wednesday $10 dinner deals, for all its mains. Unfortunately we were feeling curry cravings on a Thursday. Maybe next time. The curries were average, nothing out of the ordinary, but the garlic naans were of better quality than most places. Just the right chewiness and thickness. It's nice to have naans that are not so thin that you can feel your own fingers on the other side, or don't give pulls when trying to rip pieces off them because they are not bready enough. The thin crispy papadums were also quite lovely, and gave a nice salty taster to the Indian dinner experience.
A lovely mango lassi would have been great with the meal...
