Toronto: This is Not a Toy

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Toronto's Design Exchange is a design museum with new exhibitions every three months. Right now there is an exhibition that's just started on Tapas: Spanish Design for Food, which looks so interesting. I would love to go, if I could!
When I was in Toronto recently, the exhibition on show was called, This is Not a Toy.
Guest curated by Pharrell Williams,
This is Not a Toy is a show about conceptual toy, how they are signified within our culture, as art and design objects.
Back at university I had taken media papers as well as manga - Japanese comic and graphic novels, so this was quite an interesting experience for me.
What made these little things so desirable for some people, that they'd spend so much money on collecting them? I am a bit of a collector myself, but being committed to a minimal living lifestyle where everything needs to fit into a suitcase plus a carry-on at a moment's notice, it is a tad difficult to be collecting so much.
