Melbourne: State Library of Victoria

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

H and I said goodbyes at the State Library of Victoria. It is a beautiful building housing reference literary and art works. You cannot borrow them, but are free to browse through them.
The dome and the reading rooms impressed me. So bright yet serene. They have chess tables in one of the wings. The oil painting of the western bridge stopped me with its beautiful red colours.
I loved the colour graduation of the shelved books, and the exhibitions on the higher floors. Medium is the message is one of the first books you learn about in media studies. The Aboriginal drawings, and the kangaroo leather bound bookcases that travelled around India.
