Lunch place: Mexican specialities

Saturday, February 04, 2017

We woke up early this morning to go wild blackberry picking before the heat could properly settle.
Hungry with scratched limbs and red stained hands, we made our way to Mexican specialities. We had tried to introduce T and D to our favourite Mexican place last week but it had unfortunately been closed. Would we be second time lucky?
It was warm enough to sit outside. We ordered nacho chips and guacamole to start with, our two favourites, beef taco and nogada, mexican spicy coffees, and a jar of bbq sauce that we always buy. I was happy to realise that it is nogada season again, since this is the very dish that started my love relationship with this place.
D, always hungry, got both the nogada and a beef taco. Nogada was a hmm, not bad, 3.5 out of 5, from him. Then the beef taco came out. Eyes popped out at his first mouthful. He was in love. Half the taco was gone in pretty much the second bite then he promptly got up and ran inside to order another one. He would come back for dinner if his fiancé would let him. Mexican specialities has a new fan.
Mexican speciality told us today that they will open a second place in Orakei Bay in two months' time. Congratulations! I hope they will also start to serve alcohol in the new place, I will be sure to check it out as soon as it opens.
