Dinner place: Prego

Sunday, May 29, 2016

Last weekend I had a bit to celebrate, so we had to choose a special place to go to. We chose Prego based on a dish offered on their menu, which was greatly recommended by a friend: duck risotto. Of course we had to go. And what better occasion than to celebrate: my birthday, and the start of a new job?

Turns out, Prego is a pretty famous restaurant with the people in the know. We had heaps of suggestions of mains and desserts to try - braised beef, cheesecake...

Unfortunately, Prego doesn't take any bookings for dinners - a lot of Auckland places don't - and while normally we would have turned back rather than to wait the standard 45 minute wait, this time we were more patient. It was a special day, after all.

Sipping on our drinks, getting treated to my birthday gift - always a surprise! that boy is full of ideas - we sat it out until our table was free. It's a shame that Prego is so boomy, not the best acoustics at all, but we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner despite the noise level. The duck risotto is better than the braised beef. They didn't offer cheesecakes any more, but we got a rich chocolate log like dessert, to share.

We don't explore Ponsonby as much as I'd like. Where are the other places to go and try?
