Osaka day 2: Kita

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Chirp, chirp. I have just left Osaka castle and am on our way towards Kita area. But before, let's make a brief stop at a cathedral on the way.
 More architecture I like.
 Just across from the building.
 Found, Virgin Mary.
Each church I visit has the cultural influence of the country in which it is situated. I wish I could have taken a photo of the Japanese saints inside, and the Holy Mother in Japanese garment, but unfortunately I didn't...
Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street is the longest such shopping street in Japan. Get off at Tenjimbashisuji 6-chome Station.
Did you know the Japanese keep to the left (most of the time)? Just like in Great Britain, and New Zealand... A point that struck me as familiar yet weird at the same time after having spent three months now in Korea. It has to do with all three countries being island countries.

The black taxis are old school. At night the doors have neon blue lights that come on when they are opened.
From one end to the other of the longest shopping street in Japan, going down Tenjimbashi bridge towards all the neoclassic buildings of Osaka.

A little touch of French: Le pont de ciel - the skybridge.
Cute little buildings squashed in between the tall ones. How cute are they?
Especially this tea house with the teapot sign on the side.
 Central Public Hall
 Nakanoshima Library
 Osaka City Hall.
 Subway lights
Different styles
