Ok, so finally the day of the exposés starts today. Dread !
The manga lecture got cancelled last minute, and of course I couldn't know about it before coming to uni, since I had no way of checking my emails at home - hopefully the laptop will arrive sometime in the next week. I have about an hour and a half left before the first exposé and I don't know what to do. There's only so many things you can do to pass time on the Internet if you are not really interested.
I don't want to go home and back again, that will be too exhausting... Someone help me... :( lol
Can't wait for tomorrow to be here, already ! Argh !
PS. Lovely people whom I care about, please stop being sick !
Lots of love :):):)

I dreamt of babies and grandmas and woke up with tears in my eyes.
Because I want babies. Er, well, maybe not right now, but soon ?!
Also because I miss my grandmas so much.
:(
There was also something else in this dream that I had wanted to tell you about, but I cannot remember. I guess it wasn't as important as the babies. Nor the grandmas.

Laptop officially dead. Goodbye my companion of four and a half years. Ours was a love-hate relationship. I hated you for all your blue screens and I have lost count on the number of times I had had to reboost and reboot you, but still, four and a half years is not bad, huh.
I ordered for a new, smaller, lighter laptop. Hope it comes my way soon. You cannot imagine how annoying it is to be without a computer, without the Internet, when you are actually trying to get some work done.
Hmmpf.

Two exposés for Monday and Tuesday next week. In French, a 10 minute presentation in front of the class, all by myself. Daunting. Only just finished the minimal readings, need to put together a Power Point slides and plans on what I will say... Sigh.
Yesterday I babysat for 10 hours. In reward, haha, I finally got the new microwave with an oven function, new light bulb cover, and the mirror fixed back on the wall. Sweet !
This morning I got to meet the lady behind the blog "Oh Happy Day", which I read habitually for inspirations to my imaginative parties and events. It was cool to see her at work, and to assist in her projects. I am hoping this will become a weekly thing; I am so excited to be finally taking a step towards the 'creative' world ! My final goal : the Circus. That's one of the things I tell people, anyway.
- What do you want to do after your studies ?
- Er,.. Um... I want to do something to do with (take in rotation) translating/ interpreting / journalism/ the cultures/ films/ NGO/ children/ the Circus... Something creative.
Tomorrow, I am babysitting again, the whole night, it seems like. The kids are (still) lovely. I think we ate too many Ferrero Rochers yesterday, though...
So, see, I don't really have time for exposés, haha. Nah, I'm sure everything will be fine... Avec un peu de chance..

My laptop is down again. Could it be possible that this time around, you are really dead ???
I have already tried thumping it and shaking it like the last time, but the laptop would not listen. It won't charge. It's plugged in, I double, triple, checked.
Would someone like to give me a temporary one just til the end of my French stay, please ? :(
I don't have enough money right now to buy a new one... How annoying...

When you start getting asked for an ID when buying alcohol in FRANCE, because they don't sell them to les petits, and even when you show them the ID they won't believe you, it's when you should become worried.
I may be flattered in ten years, perhaps, but not right now in my early twenties, thank you. I would rather look my age, now.
What should I do to look more my age?!!

The 2011 Rugby World Cup kicked off today. Got up early to join the other Kiwis and French All Black supporters at Freedom Bar just off the Champs Elysees to see the opening act, then the first game of the weeks to follow.
New Zealand to Tonga, 41 - 10. Go the All Blacks!!
It was a nice environment to be watching the match. The first French game is tomorrow against the Japanese. I think the next live match I go to see will be the one between the French and the All Blacks, though, on the 24th. I cannot wait!!!

Santiago de Compotela pilgrimage from Sarria - 100km, one week
My head is full of ideas, or seeds of them, not yet even properly planted, but the beginnings are definitely there, to be nurtured and cared for. Only if I can get even one of them and make them as big as a strong lush green tree, reaching high into the sky. Oh, the possibilities. For the moment, though, they are helicopter seeds flowing aimlessly in the winds, delicate and twirling about. Spinning my head along with them. Let's grow already. Let's not get too impatient, now, lest I crumple them to dust by rushed rough handling..
So the last three days I have been getting out of my bed and out the doors early in the morning, only to come back after 10pm, while my room was being renovated. Though quite clean, I slept in a dusty bed, in a room filled with fresh paint smell.
So worth it.
My room is so white now, so much whiter than before, thanks to new walls and a newly painted ceiling, plus the shower booth wall that had been cracking has now been fixed. Soon will come the curtains, the new microwave/oven, and I will also get my mirror back.
The only problem now is how I should redecorate the room. I'm thinking minimalistic, but it's going to be hard, not being able to throw out things until the end of the year. Back in NZ I would just take the things I don't need to my parents' place, sometimes in exchange for other things I find there.
We'll see. :)

Had a dream that the ants had invaded my room again, only more ferociously as ever, mingling happily with my rice, bringing along their centipede friends as well....
Oh no, I hope they are not really in my rice bags!
I think perhaps the dream was caused by my anticipation to read Bernard Werber, a French sci-fi author who wrote about ants for which he is mostly widely known for.
My ants and centipedes were growing bigger by the minute though, until they were the same size and me and almost overbearing... Like in James and the Giant peach, though these guys were not my friends. Or maybe it was I who didn't want to make friends with them.
Why would I?!!

Happy Father's day!
The next time I get to have a meal with Dad, hopefully in Feb when I go down to Christchurch for a week, here's what I would like to prepare especially for him.
Entree:
Onion soup, a French classic.
Main:
Currywurst, a German meal, with a bottle of cool beer to complement.
The hot dog may be small in portion but along with the beer it should be filling enough. Even though the doc has told dad to wane off the alcohol until he loses weight around his midriff area...
Dessert:
Cherries, from our backyard, hopefully there'll still be some left in the tree, since, after all, it'll be late Summer then...
I miss daddy so much :)

Kinda lucky I started hard out cleaning the flat yesterday, defrosting the freezer, the fridge, the stove area, the floor, the mirror, etc, because the landowners came up this morning to inspect... There are a few works to be done in the shower booth area and while at it, I think the walls are going to be repainted.
All in the space of two days?! I am not sure how quickly the French work here, but that seems a lot to me for just a couple of days' work. Not complaining about getting my home revamped, but not sure if the room would be liveable for those days. Am considering if I should ask to stay over at a friend's, since I'm pretty sure I won't be able to take showers for a while at home.
It would be a good time for me to start going to the pools, then, huh. Also it's forcing my to get rid of even more junk that I had yesterday. Got to be more minimalist, Viv! Get rid of the cute little trinkets!
Will be decorating the room afresh for the new semester after the works, haha.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ended up packing most of my possessions, so now my room seems like a hotel room. The reason I packed so much was that I didn't know what to pack. They told me to pack the valuables, but I don't really have that many valuables, haha. In any case, it's good to know that I probably won't have to ship anything at the end of my exchange, I will be able to fit everything into my one suitcase. Way to go, Viv ! ;)

Salut Tout le
Monde !!
Comment
vas-tu ?
Moi , ça
va . Les vacances de Pâque a commencé, ça dure 2 semaines, et pour le
weekend je suis allée au nord de NZ avec mes amis, c’était super ! On a
loué un van pour nous 7 et a fait de courses le jour avant de départure .
Samedi matin on a
Cape Reinga.
cours !
Et vous, dis-moi
sur tes jours, s’il te plaît !
Outside my window there is only a small stage of the sky
bordered by two pillars of tall buildings on each side and presented above the
stage of a stumpy office building. I try to look up to the moon but the moon
for me is a lonely lit ceiling light of an apartment whose blind is up…
The radio sings of love, as usual. What is a girl to do, who
is already feeling lonely and cold, when surrounded by all these love stories?
Wallowing in the cramped closed space of the bedroom, hugging her legs in as
close to her body as possible. Make myself tiny.
Before this day is over…
Getting ready for the new semester come Monday, spent nearly all day trying to clean the room, defrost the ice in the freezer compartment, get rid of unnecessary junk in the closet, things from last semester that I don't need any more... After work tonight went out for drinks with S, so good to catch up, always :)
This weekend will be full of more cleaning and more meeting up with new friends, how chouette !!

Back from a 5-day stay near La Rochelle, visiting my old French family and high school friends. It's always so good to go back, to relax, push myself a bit more physically, eat heaps of new things, be part of a family...
This time round there was no cycling. Instead, it was swimming, at the beach, at the port. I haven't been swimming in open waters much, so at first I opted to just paddle around in the near waters, where I could still touch the sand with my feet without having my head underwater. I was scared that if I ventured out too far I would get a sudden panic attack. I am not the strongest swimmer, you see, as much as I'd like to be. But paddling by myself in the limited space that I set for myself got pretty boring after awhile. So little by little I challenged myself to push myself a bit more, a bit more still. Got-to-keep-my-head-up-I-am-not-going-to-drown-I-can-do-this !!! Definitely more comfortable with the waters now. Next stop, the local pools behind my place !
One of the reasons I am such a scared-y cat of waters is that I almost drowned in the pools as a three-year-old. Also I am just an overly cautious girl most of the time, try as I might to change it otherwise.
One step at a time, haha.
Now back in Paris, for my last weekend of the summer holidays before school starts. Quite excited for the new courses and new friends I will get to meet !! :)
